Sevenoaks Kent

Sevenoaks may be a popular commuter town, but it is surrounded by rolling hills and countryside which make it a worthwhile stop in a visit to the Weald of Kent. Its proximity to London (approx. 30 minutes by train) makes it a good place to stay if you also want to enjoy the benefits of the Capital.

The town is perhaps most well-known for the country house Knole, now run by the National Trust. This important historical house was built as a palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury, gifted to Henry VIII and remodelled by the Sackville family (who have lived here for 400 years). Indeed its shared history with Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens mean both houses are worth a visit in the same holiday if you can manage it.

Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is also an interesting and imaginative day out. All the plants have been brought back from the Himalayas and kids can even build their own dens then and try to spot the Yeti!
